Hi all,

In past times when opting to do an overnighter on Lake Rotoiti (the North Island one) I've paid $15 or so to the the Lake Rotoiti Holiday Park to use their ramp and have parked the car and trailer there overnight, for peace of mind that the car will be left alone.

It now transpires the holiday park is no longer open to the public and has gone upmarket, and a lady there told me by phone they no longer allow casual use of their ramp and parking facilities.

Does anyone know of any other secure parking areas by the lake, aside from the yacht club, which is a bit pricey? Otaramarae looks safe enough, and has lighting, but its proximity to several main roads makes me a little bit wary of leaving the car there overnight, whereas Tarawera and Okataina don't bother me so much due the their single road in/out.
I don't mean to be paranoid, but my car got broken into at a boat ramp in another area a few years ago, and it was a real hassle.

Cheers
