Hi all,

just finished doing a full check on the boat after winter to make sure everything is working before a trip out tomorrow and a few faults found so the fishing is on hold sadly.

For some reason the bilge pump and bait tank pump switches on the dash do not light up when switched on and don't work however the other  4 switches running other things light up and work fine.

I have checked and swapped fuses to be sure and this doesn't seem to be the issue.I can only see one fuse box linked to the main switch panel unless there is another somewhere?

The only thing i can think of which may have gone wrong is in winter i hooked up a new VSR cluster switch and might have screwed something up but then doesn't make sense why only two switches are not working?

Any ideas on what it could be or where to look for issues would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Dunworkin - VSR cluster should not matter unless wiring for these 2 pumps taken from a different position than other wires - recheck your wiring for some wires that go nowhere. Trace wire back from pumps and see where they go.
These 2 pumps may have the same fuse driving them. Have also seen switches fail - in my boat there is a distribution panel on dash and a fuse for each switch behind panel to one side of switch (look in behind with a torch - my fuses have a cover over them). 1 switch may control 2 devices.
Do you have a voltmeter? Use this or a bulb 12V connected to wires so you can check if power getting to switch (should have a ground distribution panel - black wires) and red power - across this should be volts or light. Find this and confirm volts/light on a working switch then figure what is happening to one that does not light. Normally ground (black) is connected to pump and red (power) goes through switch and fuse to pump. Either power not getting to switch or not coming out other side. Fuse may be blown (black/burnt) if so fit another one same type/rating - if keeps blowing most likely pump motor has seized.
Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.

I would imagine these two pumps are located close to each other - do they share a common earth?
If so check that it is connected and / or wasn't disturbed when you installed your VSR

Same could be said for the positive wire heading to these pumps

Dunwurking, sometimes the bilge pump is wired direct to the house battery.
Especially if it has a flat switch - this is so it can operate if the VSR switches are off, when the boat is moored and you wish that the pump can cope with a leak, when the main switches are off.
