John Gregory the captain of New Zealand's top game fishing boat for the last decade or so just sent in these stats for his hardworking Shimano Tiagra 80ws reels from last season.

Our service department had a look at the reels recently and the comment was "hardly looked used!"

Interesting and compelling results really.

Cheers

"They caught 83 fish for a fight time of 32 hrs 05mins and I must say with no complaints from the reels just the anglers!!

R/R ( LONG RIGGER) caught 14 fish for a total fighting time of 9 hrs 20mins.
L/R ( SHORT RIGGER) caught 16 fish for a total fighting time of 10 hrs 15 mins.
S/C ( SHORT CORNER) caught 25 fish for a total fighting time of 5 hrs 5 mins .
L/C ( LONG CORNER) caught 28 fish for a total fighting time of 7 hrs 25mins.

The top two reels caught less billfish but had more fight time the reason is they caught most of the broadbill.

Many thanks for your help.

Regards

John Gregory"

heard prime time had broken a couple of dredges including the fancy titanium jobby, but Im fairly sure that they are going to give the ones that arenui had success with a go this season , although they also broke 2 off them.
Well that's what some fella up north that's not bad at getting swordfish told me anyway, think he gets the odd marlin too.

And yep go the tiagra, stoked to hear that cos I just invested in more gold.

Interesting Kezza, nice to see investment in good gear pays off..

Out of interest does he service gear annually, or based on workload? I imagine those drags would have come under a bit of pressure looking at those average fight times.

That's a pretty impressive tally. Watched John on Prime Time (Solo) when I was up there and he just does things right. Was real good to me and offered lots of help and advice. Good on you John.
As for the Product he uses great, but it would be even better if he could run one of each brand in each position on his boat. Would be great to compare the brands at the end of the season. I know he wont as am sure he is more than happy with the performance of the product he uses but it is good to compare apples with apples as the old saying goes.
Some times it is a little tiresome to say the least to get the same old same old.
