Ive just received a quick update on todays Charter on El Donna. The lads found a patch of fish  170m off the middle of Takau. A Blue and a couple of stripes popped up to play.

Seems to have been a bit quiet through the Bay area. Al least with the Zane Grey going on.

Up tomorrow for some maintenance before more charters kick off next week.

Congratulations to the team aboard Salt Shaker, skippered by Paddy Bohane with crewman Matt Hallowes who had a double today & managed to tag one and weigh this 155.4kg striped marlin for angler Damon Smith in the Powerbase Tournament!! This fish is the new pin for the club!

Thanks for everything you did for us Eric. may you rest in peace, You were one of the real legends of NZ recreational fishing

yeah mate i should have given it go but too far in the conditions they were predicting today yet Bruce Smith said it was calm as out there, he was using lives around the Bird Rock Cape Brett area till they started calling up the hook ups out wide,
some 40 odd boats fishin that comp going by the radio roll call.

lots of small 15 to 20cm Kahawai in the Te Puna Ilet entrance right now, just a tiny squid skirt or slightly larger Sabiki will fill your livebait tank in seconds...

Just  got back into Aucks after 2 days up there. Fished the Brett through to Cav Canyons and into Cavalliis. Big work ups of Dolphins in close at the Cavaliis. Heaps of flying fish. Had one hit the saloon window which was a 1st !. As Lethal said, Nine Pin Trench was firing. I found big bait schools bottom end of trench and worked Livies all yesterday avo. Thought I was in for awhile but nothing eventuated.

8 day charter kicks off tomorrow so hopefully the boat finds a few :)

All lookin quite promising !

Whats been happening up this way recently, am heading up over easter weekend and thinking about having a troll for a marlin.
People say if fishing was easy then it would be called catching, I say these people who say that obviously had a bad day's fishing.

Pics just in from the BOISC Small boats tournament! Special thanks to Glen & Margaret Pierce from Cater Marine Opua on their efforts again this year convening this tournament! Top team this year went to Chris & Thomas Caddell on the boat Tournament One with two tagged Marlin! Heaviest billfish went to Olivia Beauchamp aboard Blind Squirrel with skipper Bevan Beauchamp who weighed a 149.8kg striped marlin on 15kg! The Greenhalgh family aboard Fryan also collected some prizes with two tagged sharks
you can see the results on FaceBook...

A few fish around out there today. One angler caught his first marlin in 180 off the Cavallis - I had one up in 225 just inside the trench, & another scattering saury in a late afternoon bite in 125 off Rocky. Also reports of more fish even closer in off the Ninepin late afternoon. Don't worry too much about the water colour - blue-ish at it's best, but when it glassed off early afternoon the sun pumped it up to 23.3 degrees off Takou !

Fire Brigade tourney run out of Russell last couple of days.
21 boats supporting the good guys of our community!
Heaviest Stripey 158 Kgs, 2nd place 112kg & third place 110kgs.
Pretty quiet but the word is that there is heaps of bait & some very big fish starting to show.
Thanks to all the boats that support this popular tournament & the crews & sponsors.
