First day of a three day trip on the good ship Mundurra. Left the BOI this morning and headed for a Spot north of the knights. Running a spread of Bonze lures behind a dredge paid off about 1300 this afternoon, hooking up to a nice feisty stripie around 80 kg. took the d shackle Behind the dredge..... Sound familiar? Got it to the boat and tagged after a bit of drama with crossed lines.
Parked up in Whangaruru for the night ready for another day tomorrow.
Stay tuned.

Headed out behind the knights this morn and the short out rigger got knocked down about 10.15. Had it at at boat after 20mins, couldn't get a shot and it took another 200m.

25 mins later got it (edit: Striped Marlin) boatside and now in the boot. First for the crew and boat so was plenty of expletives throughout - Not huge but awesome result all the same! Had 4 for strikes throughout the day mostly around 190m but nothing stuck.

Have the bug well and truely now!

Mahi went 7.24kg Took a Pakula lumo and is very tasty. Water was nice and blue. Temperature was better in around the 125 and closer and .4 degree cooler (still plenty warm enough though) out to the 170. That's as wide as I went today. Sounded like most of the "action" was wide of the trench today. I found the bait and Albacore were on the cooler side of the temperature break. Drove through 2 small schools of skippies working the surface and they wouldn't bite my offerings. Lost all but 2 of the Albacore as most were a tad big for my bungee.

We are running mostly the other guys lures , they don't have the light hooks.. All sold out. My top ten all have the light hooks but mostly they are staying in their bags

Had a feisty little stripey on them couple of weeks back. Hooks performed perfectly.

Slow day for us today. It though the KP and beyond with everyone else.. Bit of action round the 200 mark north of Knights.
Plan to head out early tomorrow to catch the morning bite. Will fish our way back into Opua tomorrow.

Lots of action 2day, some had double strikes... I think 3 marlin and 1 yft yesterday and 5 marlin 2day.

Even shots off Pataua 100m and Oceans 110m.

Back in Opua now. Picked up a couple of nice 8kg Mahimahi abut 0900. North knights.. Headed back towards the bay around 1200 listening to the action start up behind us. Quite fishy looking 170 home point Mumu area. Heaps pilot whales dolphins... Skippies and Albies a bit further north of them.
That's all
From me for a month. Back to work for a month.. Roll on March.
