Synit has been working on some new concept light rods for Softbaits or light lures for this coming summer.
We decided to start off at the light weight end 1-4kg and 2-4kg with the heavier models to follow in the new year. Photo's will follow but as they are that new they have only just come off the computer.

The Matanza XL and XLX will both be 2pc rods, (specs for each below). The XL 1-4kg will feature the joint at the forgrip so the rod will have the action and performance of a true 1pc rod.
The XLX 2-4kg will feature a 2pc blank with a parallel butt section and the joint at the stripper guide for safe and secure loading of the join.
We have taken the same proven jointing system as used on the Van Diemen MACX topwater rods and down scaled it to suit these smaller diameter rods.
The tips on both the XL and XLX use Xantu Nano Live Fibre combined with a Multi Axis Carbon and high modulas non woven flat sheet carbon. The butt sections use the same materials but are parallel and feature a reverse taper joint.

I managed to fire off a few quick pic's of the Matanza 722 1-4kg rod before handing it over to the field testers.
After trialling many different guide manufacturers we settled on Fuji's KL/KT single foot guide system for these lighter rods which has proved to make for smooth long pin point tangle free casts.

I've matched the Kiwi prototype 722 up to a little Shimano Sustain FG1000 as we plan to use this reel for setting up the Aussie version of the 722 rod the Matanza 682 1-4kg.

I'm dying to try the Aussie version which has been designed for their market as well as the Asian market where the butt dimensions are ultra short for one handed all day casting. (see photo comparison)

I will try to get some pic's of the 842 2-4kg Matanza before it leaves as well. The scope for this rod is varied from casting softbaits into the wash from distance to Egi use.

Yeah its pretty nice alright, I have just had to put clean pants on. Bringing back memories of bending it last week. Loving the 2 piece join option, it def gives the rod a more natural bend then a standard 2 piece.

We did more static tests on it yesterday and today as well as some dry casting, it bends alright and more than happy with the results thus far. Real test... fish and plenty of them.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff will meet Friday to do the prototype blank designs for the 3-6kg and the 5-8kg versions. Same gravy just more meat...
