Does anyone know where I can buy one of those 5m-ish telescopic "telepoles" for catching baitfish off the wharf?  The kind with no reel, just line tied to the tip.
Preferably in the Howick/Botany/East Tamaki/Manukau area.
Cheers.

check out coarse fishing forums (http://www.coarsefishing.co.nz/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=3) or coarse fishing clubs ..... used to use them as kids coarse fishing in the canals in the UK.

A home made telescopic rod?  Life's too short!
I remember the coarse fishing poles, our house back into the UK backed onto the Grand Union Canal.  On a busy day the butts of 5 graphite fishing poles would be sticking through our hedge and way out into the garden!  Luckily never on a day when I was using the electric hedge trimmers...

I did find this post:

http://www.fishing.net.nz/asp_forums/how-to-piper-pole-fishing_topic77554.html

-which mentions a shop on Mt Albert that sells them (or at least used to) but I was hoping to find somewhere a bit nearer.

Action Fishing in Mt Albert has them

Thanks,
I made the trek out to Cheers Fishing, who have a whole selection of them.
Have only tried it out once, but the few piper about weren't biting.  Looks like it'll be fun though, real minimalist fishing!
