There must be millions of left handed fisher people around the world who are left handed, so why can't you purchase left hand boat reels. I want to get a Talica but not keen on spending $900 if it's not the right setup for me!

Alutecnos and Avet do all (?) of their reels in left handed versions, personally being left handed I like to wind with my right hand so a talica (RH ) suits me fine .

Right handed but prefer left hand wind
Sorted for softbaiting with a Curado 201, Calcutta 201 & fly reel in LH wind.
Anything bigger and choice is limited

I'm strongly left handed. Many years ago I went to a shop in Newmarket called Just Fishin.  They were THE shop back in the day. It was run by a guy called Tony Bishop, a very wise man. Anyway, the salesman there( Mark Kitteridge?) talked me out of buying a left hand overhead reel. Some of the best advice i ever got from anyone!

It took me literally years before I could cast with it competently. Then I finally got it and would never go back. The reason being that it is your left hand (thumb) that gives you the control. I reckon I would still be trying to cast an overhead otherwise.

I really do believe that left handers have an unfair advantage over the 'others' when it comes to fishing. Strike a blow for the freedom fighters!Star

Okuma Solterras are available in left hand in both their 10 and 15 sizes (for 10kg and 15kg mono). Solid reels too, lever drag, stainless internals, carbon drags etc.
Well under $300 for a combo too, could be worth a look?

Yep, being right handed I can't work out why we (on the right side) don't wind on the left and use our stronger right arm to manage the rod.

Am right handed, but all my spinning reels are left-hand wind - easy to change the handle though. On overheads, two left-hand Daiwa Lexas cover 90% of my needs.

has anyone thought of strengthening their weaker arm?
i'm guessing that would solve all your problems or is that just too much hard work?

Confused

i use lefties all the time now, though i'm right handed. i recently got two daiwa millionaire 103a goldies off ebay at great price. both un used from japan, still in box. (they retailed for $1300 here when available). i paid around a hundy plus postage.  great reels to use and being left handed i can use my stronger arm on rod. i landed a 18kg kingy last time out on 10kg, no sweat to the reel or drag.
she was only a fishermans daughter, but she reeled at the sight of my rod!.

technically I am sure, the best approach is that your stronger and more co ordinated arm should hold the rod, not do the winding. Hence fly rods are this way round.

Just many people dont put in the time to get the hang of it of making their weaker arm do the little circles for winding the reel, hence many righties prefer right hand reels, which i believe is nuts if you are interested in casting well.

In a casting situation I will always prefer a left hand wind reel, I am a righty.

Have to agree....I'm left handed but crank the reel with my right.

im right handed, have always used my left for the reel....stands to reason to use your strongest arm for the rod..... it is hard to find good lefty reels though.
