Not having been on a charter boat and looking to book one when on upcoming leave is it worth travelling with my gear and all the issues that can cause or just paying the extra to hire from the boat so that most or all types of fishing that may be encountered on the day can be done

Cheers in advance

It depends on the charter scotty, some (a few) have quality gear while others have gear that may not meet your expectations. Some charters that are specialist kingfish jigging or marlin charters often have very good gear, last year I went with Epic charters and their gear was great which is just as well because I dont have any jigging gear. Unless it is a top end charter or you dont have the right gear I would take my own based on a discussion with the operator as to what you will be fishing for and where you will be going.

To save yourself lugging them around and if they aren't something you have spent a ton of money on to justify the usage then just hire theirs. Most decent charters will supply decent gear to accommodate whatever style of fishing they provide and you wont have to worry about anything. Just give them a call first to confirm!

Have looked at previous thread on charters and going to choose between three of the ones that came up most often.
Will give them a ring direct to discuss.
Cheers boys

no way!? Man that is terrible for a charter company. Poor effort. I second Damos gig though. Have heard good things.

I always take my own gear because I have been very disappointed on a couple of occasions with the quality of the gear on charter boats, And I'm just used to using nice gear any way. If you can bring your own gear up I'd recommend doing so.

It definitely depends on the charter boat, it does pay to ask...most of the time take your own unless the charter has better gear.
