Hi all those Bay of Plenty people interested in the Rena Wreck - see below for a viewing of some underwater footage taken recently of the remaining part of the Rena still on Astrolabe Reef (I have some friends who have seen this video footage already and they said it is pretty depressing seeing how much of a mess is still down there. My understanding is that the divers who took this footage were supposed to sign a confidentialty agreement before they went out there, however this never happened, and it was ony after they had finished the dive that it was found out that the documents had not been signed, the people who took them out  there tried to confiscate the cameras but were unable to, hence we now have an opportunity to view this disturbing footage.

Note this is a video evening only and there will be no discussion about the video footage or what is proposed to be done with the Rena in the future. You are more than welcome to stay for a beer afterwards.

The MOSC is located on Salibury Wharf on Salisbury Ave, Mt Maunganui.

Rena Video Evening

We are pleased to offer you an opportunity to see a video of what’s left of the Rena (and some of the cargo) on the Astrolabe reef (prior to the removal of any of the accommodation structure).

This video was taken by two members of the Mount Dive Club and they have kindly agreed to present it to our members and friends.

This is to be held on the evening of 23rd April at 7.15pm upstairs at the MOSC (after completion of Wednesday night raffles).

Come along and have dinner and support our raffle night (Fishing Club are on duty) and then move on upstairs for the video.

This is a great opportunity to see the effects of 2 years under the sea on a wreck and some of its cargo, so make the time to come along.

what are they authorities trying to hide. Confidentially  agreement.?  Sounds dodgy. Cargo still down there. What sort of cargo would they leave behind. Pity that video is not able to be put on here or screened on T.V

there is apparently a sizable $$ value worth of aluminium ignots down there which would be a worthwhile salvage by a small team/vessel operation but the size of the boats etc currently involved out there they were deemed to be not viable.

Cirrus - The confidentiality aggreement had nothing to do with the authorities it was the people acting for the ships owners,  I think it was the insurance company or salvors who arranged to allow them to visit and dive the wreck.
