Responsive and light, the new Taipan series of rods are proving popular with Kiwi anglers, and the TP 1702 is no exception. At around 7 feet in length and capable of taking line weights from 6-10kg, the 1702 is designed to be very versatile, especially as the guide configuration enables both spinning and freespools to be used. In particular, it is suitable for targeting our preferred food and sport fish (such as snapper, trevally, kahawai, blue cod, trumpeter, tarakihi, john dory and gurnard), as it is ideal for bottom fishing, straylining, spinning, light trolling and jigging. Another feature of note is the removable gimbal butt-cap. Made of EVA, it can be left on for angler comfort, or removed so that it can slot into a rod bucket gimbal-nock or boat rod holder. The Shimano Taipan TP 1702 comes complete with a protective cloth bag and is distributed by Doug Johnson Ltd in Auckland.
