Tackle tricks - breakaway sinker

If you're fishing over rough ground and want to keep tackle loss to a minimum open up the eye on your sinker wire with a pair of long nosed pliers so that it forms a sort of C shape. To the end of your chosen rig tie a split ring or loop.

Attach a short legnth of 5kg breaking strain mono to the split ring and tie the other end to the sinker, to cast hook the lead onto the split ring when it hits the water it will release leaving the lead connected via the weak line. Now if you snag up a steady pull will snap the " rotten bottom " so that you only loose the sinker. If you want to cut down tackle loss further replace the sinker with an old spark plug.  Note don't use with powerfull casting styles.
